In the 1980 s,"avant-garde novels" had become popular all over the country and soon become a literary fashion.As the time goes by,those novels gradually lost its "avant-garde".Ge Fei,the main force of the "avant-garde novels" writers,has kept his "avant-garde" writing for a long time.After writing novels for thirty years,Ge Fei has engraved his techniques into his own blood.The techniques has became a fixed symbol in his works Therefore,even if the "avant-garde novels" faded,the avant-garde nature in his works is still the focus of criticism.At the same time,many critics have noticed the return of the traditional soul in his novels,and then there have been many articles that emphasize both the traditional and avant-garde characteristics in his novels.However,these articles didn't mentioned how the traditional and avant-garde characteristics merged in these works,neither explained how the transition between them is presented.And they rarely cared about whether the traditional characteristics in his works are a phenomenon of coming back to literary tradition or inheriting the tradition.This article cuts through the "image" in Ge Fei's novels and explores the connection point between the pioneer and the tradition.Based on this,the image in Ge Fei's "avant-garde novels" are not simply influenced by Borges and Marquez.The influence of Western modernist writers such as Kafka,but derived from the imagery tradition of Chinese culture,while absorbing some elements of Western imagery,has formed its own imagery characteristics.This article has three chapters.The introduction is divided into four parts: research background,research status,research content and significance,and research methods.The first part mainly summarizes the existing research,finds out the problems and deficiencies,and then conducts the research deeper.The second part summarizes the three themes of the study of the imagery of Ge Fei's novels in the existing research,analyzes the key points of each theme,and focuses on the analysis of individual important documents.The third part is the writing ideas and main research objectives of this article,mainly for the interpretation of several common images of Ge Fei's "avant-garde novels".The fourth part introduces the research methods involved in this paper.The first chapter discusses the imagery tradition in Chinese literature first.After the combing of the imagery tradition,it points out that the images used by the writers of "avant-garde novels" and their way of thinking are rooted in China.Later,analyzes and observes the representation and connotation of images in the works of "avant-gardenovels" and their influence on the development of literature.Finally,I return to the author,pointing out that under the background of Chinese cultural traditions and works analysis,it is not difficult to see how these writers use traditional images,and how their "traditional characteristics" are subtly concealed,making latecomers I saw that "avant-garde characteristics",but did not see "traditional" one.The second chapter is divided into four sections to discuss the dual meanings of tradition and pioneer in the images of Ge Fei's novels.The focus is on the main images of the rain,flowers,mirrors and dreams in Ge Fei's novels.It is pointed out that even in the "pioneer period",these images also contain traditional elements,which are related to the infiltration of Chinese traditional culture.Even if he is influenced by Western literature,it can not deny the influence of Chinese traditional culture on him.At the same time,taking at least two works as an example,it proves that the images of Ge Fei's novels have the traditional imprint from the beginning.Its vanguard is the result of Ge Fei's acceptance of western literature.From this,we can see that the traditional imprint of the image of Ge Fei's novels has hardly changed.On the basis of the second chapter,the third chapter summarizes Ge Fei's "inheritance" posture,explains the tradition of the novel image and the pioneering dual meaning,which just proves to some extent the influence of Chinese cultural tradition on him.The inheritance posture of the authors of "avant-garde novels" represented by Ge Fei can be found in the "traditional characteristics" of his novel imagery.On the other hand,the “avant-garde characteristics” of these images are what they get after they have integrated China and the West.For Chinese literature,the avant-garde meaning of imagery is groundbreaking.The new situation they opened has provided more space for later authors to freely play,but it also brought negative effects.The conclusion points out that most commentators in the early days considered "avant-garde novels" were the product of Chinese authors inspired by western avant-garde thoughts after the "Cultural Revolution" was lifted.Therefore,in the early days of the development of "avant-garde novels",both readers and commentators focused on their "avant-garde characteristics",and the images were frequently associated with the corresponding western writers' works.However,these images are in fact an extension of Chinese culture and Chinese imagery traditions,but they have been added avant-garde meaning by the author.This is their speciality,but not their "pioneer",which is the biggest difference between them and the "avant-garde novels" text.
