After Jinpingmei (金瓶梅) and before Hongloumeng(红楼梦), Xingshi Yinyuan Zhuan (醒世姻缘传) whose author may be from Shandong is one relatively characteristic novel on the world( 世情小说) at the end of the Ming Dynasty or at the beginning of the Qing Dynasty. Probing into the verbal reduplication in Xingshi Yinyuan Zhuan (醒世姻缘传), this thesis discusses the formats, the characteristics, the grammatical meanings, the grammatical functions and the developing situations of the formats, and has made the preliminary explanation to its reasons of developing and evolving.The full thesis is divided into three parts.The first part is the introduction , which puts forward the research object of this thesis.The second part is the main body of the thesis, which consists of three chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the kinds and formats of the verbal reduplication in Xingshi Yinyuan Zhuan (醒世姻缘传),and discusses the characteristics with two respects of grammar and syllable. Chapter 2 discusses that the verbal reduplication in Xingshi Yinyuan Zhuan(醒世姻缘传) can show transient and slight movements and other grammatical meanings, and serve as the compositions of the sentence , such as predicate , etc. . Chapter 3 discusses the relation of sourceand stream between AA and A ?A , discusses the growing and decreasing changes of AABB and ABAB , introduces especially how the peculiar formats of the verbal reduplication such as词重叠+补语,AA着,AB一AB,AB了AB etc. came into being and how they developed.The third part is a conclusion which points out that the verbal reduplication in Xingshi Yinyuan Zhuan(醒世姻缘传) has played such an important role in the course of developing of verbal reduplication that the researchers should pay close attention to it.
