Chen Yuyi was the most outstanding poet in the transition period of South and North Song Dynasty. Possessing a high sense of inheriting the past and ushering in the future, his poetry creation was influenced by lingering Jiang xi style and created a precedent for some poets, such as Lu you, Yang Wanli, etc. The course of his poetry creation made a turn in the turbulent days of Jing Kang. He created over 280 pieces of poetry, almost half of his total and his characteristic style of poetry also changed greatly henceforth about five years in the trouble times. So both the ideological content and artistry achieved considerable high level in the period of this time. Being the turning point and the highest point of his poetry creation and serving as a link between past and future, his poetry on war should be strengthened a special study, thus we can not only gasp the complete picture of his poetry but can understand the poetry development course of Song Dynasty. Nevertheless, academic circles don't pay sufficient attention on study of his poetry, let alone his poetry about war. Though there are descriptions in the following monograph, for example, Mo Lifeng's "study on the Jiang xi poetiy style", Wu Shudian's "on Chen Yuyi's poetry", besides special topic including Ai Sitong's "Opinions of Chen Yuyi's poetry" and Wu Zhongsheng's "several views of Chen Yuyi's poetry on war" and so on. They are quite superficial and unsystematic though all of the discussions have pointed out the change of his poetry style. Few people would male a deeper study on many other questions such as what on earth did he open up the subject and content? How did he improve his style and what element caused these changes? But I want to do some work at the questions mentioned above within mypower. I will study his aptitudes for writing in the first and second chapter in both theme choice aspect and aesthetic feeling aspect so as to find out his innovation on the elements of content and artistic style. I will go on to discuss the reasons that made his style change from the external factor such as the realities of the war and literacy inquisition to the internal factor of his creation pursuing in the third chapter, hoping that will help us gasp Chen Yuyi's poetry on war completely, thoroughly and systematically. |
