As a literati at the turn of the two Songs dynasties,Chen Yuyi is famed for his lyric poetry which is often called ‘Chen's Poetic Style.' This Style serves as a milestone in the literary history for its inheritance from The West River Poets and the precedent for the patriotic poems ensued.This Style serves as a milestone in the literary history for its inheritance from The West River Poets and the precedent for the patriotic poems ensued.However,it is inclined for the literary field to focus on the artistic style,the influence and the relevance of Chen's poems to The West River Poets.In particular,the researches concerning the recognition of his poetry are still not very sufficient and systematic..Given these circumstances,the paper is characterized by the detailed analysis of Chen's poem recognition based on the research methods of documentary collection and Reception Aesthetic.Besides,this paper provides the explanations of the underlying causes beneath the recognition of his poems.The thesis consists of the introduction,the body and the conclusion.The introduction intends to generally describe the previous researches on the recognition of poetry of ChenYuyi and discloses relevant researches methods,the purposes and impacts of this thesis.In the first chapter,the overall outlook of Chen's poem recognition in the two Song dynasties is introduced in the broader view.The elaboration ensues on the praise for Chen's poetry at that time,on the exploration into the sources of poetry,the evaluation of aesthetic style and the features of recognition of poems.Chen's poems were popularly recognized as masterpieces in the two Song dynasties when the style of Chen was consistent with that of the preceding poets like Tao Yuanming,Du Fu.During that period,Chen's poetry has been applauded for its unique style known as “Chen's Poetic Style”.His poems,especially those during the “Movement Southwards”.have gained him unprecedented prominence in the poetic circle.As a result,Chen's poetry was in the great favor of both emperors and scholars alike in his lifetime.The second chapter focuses on the specific study of Chen's poem recognition in the narrower view,taking Zhang Nie,Hu Zhi and Liu Kezhuang.Zhang's analysis was to explain the seclusion and freshness of Chen's poetry from the perspectives of writing purposes and poetic style;Hu intended to research into the whereabouts of Chen in chronological order and depicted the bonds with Du Fu's poetry.The great contribution of Hu's study was to innovatively relate Chen's poetic style to that of The West River Poets;Liu analyzes Chen's poem style of “conciseness and grandeur” and his achievements of learning from Du Fu to speak highly of the leading role of Chen in the poetic circle during the “Movement Southwards”.This chapter demonstrates the recognition of Chen's poems from three different poetic angles of the critics in their lifetimes and depicts the uniqueness and insight of those critics into Chen's poetry.The chapter three explains the reasons of Chen's poem recognition based on the life experiences and writing of Chen.The analysis continues with the historical background and writing environment to introduce the calls for changes in poetic style,the sorrows about the changes of dynasty and impacts the poetic features have on the recognition of Chen's poems.Following this are the internal and external causes concerning the popular favor of his poems.In the conclusion,the paper gives a summary.As a prominent poet during the two Song dynasties,Chen Yuyi has his own contributions to the alternation in the poetic style based on his style change due to the vicissitudes.The recognition of Chen's poems during that period is vital for Chen to be listed in the forefathers of the “The West River Poets” and lays solid foundation for Chen's unprecedented status in the literary history.
