Based on some phenomena prevalent among Chinese students learning English, aprobe into first and second language acquisition is made through three perspectives. Firstly, the author of this essay reconsiders the traditional descriptions concerned from three main approaches to second language acquisition: neurolinguistic, linguistic and psychological while focusing on the relationship between first language acquisition and second language acquisition. Secondly, four variables about second language acquisition are especially enunciated, namely, input, process, task and context. Thirdly and most importantly, the author will focus on the question of differential factors that may facilitate second language acquisition: language aptitude, motivation, attitude, personality, learning strategies and some other factors such as memory, awareness, will, sex, prior experience, and so on.
