Hongjiang lies in Xiangxi and the jointment between Yuan River and Wu River. From the time which is among the end of Ming Dynasty and beginning of Qing Dynasty to the period of the War of Risistance Against Japan, namely, there is 300 years, Hongjiang developed into a big Commercial port from a simple and crude country fair which lies in high mountain ridges. So Hongjiang is called as little Nanjing, little Shanghai and a thoroughfare of seven provinces. But this text has limited space, the text only probes into tentatively the City Culture of Hongjiang from 1840 to 1949.There are three parts as follows.The first part of the text introduces the course and reasons of the development of the modern city culture of Hongjiang. The modern times of Hongjiang has developed in the period of KangQian, has been prosperous in the end of Qing Dynasty, and has been in a period of great prosperity in the period of the War of Resistance Against Japan, and at last, has gone down to the period of War of Liberation. The development and prosperity in the modern times of Hongjiang is a result that the unique regional superiority, special background, the pluralistic culture, etc, make joint efforts.The second part discusses in details the modern urban culture of Hongjiang, including city projects and distributions, city architectures; transportation, economic situation, industry and trade organizations, civil organizations, political systems and organizations, the sense of value as to money, the sense of competition, honest and other social psychological sense.The last part discusses features of modern urban culture of Hongjiang as follows: as for the source, the city culture is migrant; as for the service objects, the city culture belongs to the typical commercial culture; as for the formation, the urban culture is pluralistic and open; to the nature the urban culture is one of the earliest capitalist culture, and to the course, the city culture in the modern times of Hongjiang is phased.
