Shang Hai’s Immigrants And The Social Culture Development Of Shang Hai City(1841-1941)

The foreign immigrants of Shang Hai’s in modern times is the main part of the Shang Hai city’s population. And the development of the Shang Hai city is closely related with these foreign immigrants.Because the human is the first factor of city construction and development, based on this, firstly this paper attempts to analyze the population structure, population distribution and immigration characteristics of Shanghai major foreign immigrants in order to determine its activities in Shanghai and the main scope of activities during the1843to1937. Based on these conclusions try to discuss the influence of modern Shanghai foreign immigration on Shanghai city culture.On the relationship between Foreign immigrants in modern Shanghai and the Shanghai urban social cultural, modern foreign immigrants in Shanghai opened the first modern education atmosphere, introduced the foreign advanced equipment, technology in newspapers and periodicals, founded the publishing industry and modern news service--news agencies and broadcasters, provided a template to the training of the modern Shanghai emerging knowledge group and the establishment of the Shanghai national capital enterprise. On the religious culture, diverse groups of immigrants led to Shanghai’s diverse religious culture, the spread of Christianity, Catholic, Orthodox, Jewish, Sikh and other foreign religions enriches the Shanghai urban culture, especially the influence of Catholicism and Christianity is the most obvious and far-reaching. In addition to the establishment of new schools and the modern news publishing, Catholicism and Christianity also to practice medicine to save people, spread the gospel, increase the Hindus, which affected the concept of modern Shanghai people thought changing. Also because of variety of Shanghai foreign immigrants, it prompted Shanghai Modern entertainment life changing, all kinds of recreational facilities are set up in Shanghai, all of this were not only satisfy the feeling of loneliness of the immigrants in a foreign land, also injected fresh blood to the Shanghai’s traditional entertainment. All of this brought by the foreign immigrants after they came to Shanghai, it is not only enriched cultural construction in Shanghai city, but also influenced the values and way of life of the people in Shanghai.
