The Tang Dynasty, especially the middle and late period,is a time when prose-poetry took great changes and at the same time made great achievements. The period marked the completion of the form of prose-poetry and saw a flourishing situation when different forms and styles contended. However, researchers of different dynasties did not take it seriously enough and had divergent comments. The author attempts to make a thorough evaluation of the composition and value of prose-poetry in the middle and late Tang Dynasty. Firstly, the author introduces the development of this writing style as well as its composition in the early Tang Dynasty according to historical materials. In the second place, the author discusses various forms and composition of prose-poetry during the middle and late period and then analyses its characteristics and the reason of its flourishing. On the basis of the first two arguments, the author summarizes and evaluates prose-poetry in the middle and late Tang Dynasty in the third part of the paper.
