Study Of Taoist Poetry Of The Tang Dynasty

As an important content of Tang poetry subject, "Taoist poetry "has its special value.This dissertation is an attempt to appreciate quite another aspect and domain of the poetry in Middle Tang times.The thesis consists of five parts as following:Introduction gives a brief illustrstion of Taoist in Tang Dynasty,and a presentation of the objectives,significance and scope of my research.The first chapter, beginning from the social background, discusses the Middle Tang poet's Taoism poetry prosperous reasons from two aspects. First aspect, Middle Tang Taoism and imperial authority union, second aspect, Middle Tang poet and Taoism.The second chapter, in the elaboration of the Middle Tang poet's Taoism poetry ideological content, discusses the most main three kinds: i . Records and narrates the poet and taoist priest's intercourse: Posting and delivering the poetic works, visiting each other, missing after leaving each other, ii . Records and narrates religious ideality, which is approximately divided into two categories : (1) aspiration to become Taoist and immortals aroused by their piety for Taoism, in hope for prolonging individual life; (2) suspicion and denial of worldly life and the society, with the wishes that they could free from social enmeshing and secure freedom, iii. Illustrates religious practices of Taoism, such as channeling the inner verve, making and taking pellets of immortals, delving into classics and holding sacrificial ceremonies, etc.The third chapter, in the analysis of Middle Tang's Taoism poetry artistic images, divides into three parts: First, Celestial confines in midst of secular world; Second, new images of Taoist by literators; Third, female Taoist priests like fairies.The concluding remark, discusses the Middle Tang poet's Taoism poetry value.It points out these poems conveyed the importance attached to value of life.It expresses the deep love of miscellaneous natural creatures, demonstrates the ethos of that time, promotes the composition of Mounts-and-river poems.It enriches the stores of images of Chinese poetry and strengthenes the humanitarian content of the scenery spots of our motherland.
