Self-regulated learning(SRL) refers to the capability to control all aspects of ones learning, from advance planning to how one evaluates performance afterward. As acquired capability, SRL can make an important difference in people's lifelong development. Today, more and more students are asked to become self-regulated learners to fit the change pace of society. However, as teachers have not lay stress on teaching SRL, many students exhibit poor qualities of academic self-regulation. Although research on SRL has its long history and has made great progress, it does not do a lot in English classes. Theoretical supports that can be offered to teachers for cultivating students' SRL are very limited.We hold that students' capabilities to regulate their learning on their own are mainly acquired from systematic classroom training. SRL grows out of the passive or other-controlled position, and increasingly takes a positive and self-controlled form. Self-regulation of learning accomplishes from one dimension to many dimensions. And the self-regulatory processes become more automatic with the increasing practice. Instruction that helps the development of SRL should put students at the center of the learning situations. In the classroom that is beneficial to SRL, students should act as self-instructor other than receiver, and teachers should guide, supporters rather than lectures. Teachers' exposition that follows students' questions can bring about better effects on SRL than that is before students' learning attempt. Sequence of the instructional events that best promotes SRL is as follow: presenting objectives, activating intrinsic motivation, directing students to master the text independently, examining students' learning, groupdiscussing, teacher expositing the learning difficulties, doing exercises, and making a summary.The research analyses about the questions on teaching of college English and how to improve it, and then suggests that students study by method of SRL. We hope that the method can help the students to improve their study and help the teachers to improve their teaching.In the article we talk about the meaning of SRL, its theoretical basis, the process of research in and out our country. And then we summarize the available, acceptable, easy-operated, helpful operation program about SRL in classroom training.
