Designing product is a creative activity. The application of the creative thinking in product design is of great importance to design achievements.Nowadays, innovations are advocated in all kinds of fields. The core of the creative activities, i.e., the creative thinking, is regarded more and more importantly and widely applied. Lots of attention is paid in the studies at home and abroad. In the early 1980s the creative thinking was applied to the specific field and led good effects. With the improvement of requirements on product design at home, it is a must for us to cultivate the ability to use creative thinking to solve problems in product design. Therefore, it is important for us to know the relevant rules and process in the creative thinking.The studies in this thesis kick off under these circumstances. Because the scope the creative thinking covers is wide, just several aspects that are concerned with product design are chose. First, in accordance of the creative process of product design, the two types in product design be divided into, namely, realistic product design and conceptual product design, and generalizes the essential features of the creative thinking in the realistic design and avant-garde feature in the conceptual design. Then the author analyze the relationship between design methods and the creative thinking, discuss the relationship between the creative thinking and systematic macro-methodology, and analyze the micro-creative thinking manifested in applied techniques in procedures. Furthermore the author also make an analysis of two typical examples of the creative thinking in product design, namely, the divergent-convergent process of thinking and inspiration in design. The process of design be found, that is a spiral and rising one of "converge-diverge-converge". The author discussed the nature, features of inspiration and how to raise and capture inspirations. Finally the paper make a generalization of those factors influencing the creative thinking in design, including intelligence, design concept, thinking mode, impulse and ambition, as well as world outlook. The basic ways to cultivate the creative thinking are discussed as well. After the theoretical studies of the creative thinking in product design, the thesis make use of some design instances to detail the actual applications of the creative thinking in design to provide a tangible support to our study. The purpose is to illustrate the fact that the study of the creative thinking in product design comes from practice and goes to practice eventually.
