The Research On The Lucky Meanings Of Chinese Traditional Locks

Since the Chinese traditional locks were replaced by pin tumbler locks which had been introduced from the West World, the whole traditional handicraft industry system of lock have been crashed into pieces and scattered in the faraway countryside. In this thesis, those broken pieces are attempted to be collected and combined. Then the old Chinese lock culture is reviewed in the point of view of design. And the lucky meanings of the old locks are analyzed.In the first two chapters, the development sorts and construct of the old locks are introduced and the reason why the technology of the old locks developed very slowly is analyzed. In the third chapter, the artistic style of the old locks are researched and get the basic character, the lucky meanings involved in the shape and decoration of the old locks. In the fourth the lucky meanings of the old locks are analyzed and summarized. And the directions to today's design of locks are analyzed in the fifth chapter. In the last chapter, the meanings of researching on traditional lock culture are keeping on being discussed.
