This thesis intends to focus on how to systematically analyze and prepare for the transfer of styles before novel translation, and which method to choose during the process of translation.Chapter one is a general introduction. It first of all defines STYLE; then discusses the artistic style or charm of literature language (this thesis involves novel language) and the national stylistic differences between English and Chinese, with an inference that style can be transferred; finally it gives the criteria of successful style translation.Chapter two focuses on the analytical process and methods of style translation. It gives analysis separately to the receptor factor (including the translator, original readers and readers of the target version), the original author and the language styles of the original work. Then it puts forward the methods of style translation.Chapter three is based on the theories of the first two chapters. Through an analysis and comparison of the language styles and the translated versions (mainly the one by Mr. Zhang Guruo) of David Copperfield by Dickens, it gives a conclusion of the major style translation methods by the translators of this novel.Chapter four makes an inference of the style translation methods that can be adopted by most novel translators; it admits the difficulty of style translation and points out the shortcomings of this thesis and the direction of later research.
