Zhao Shuli and Sun Li, both growing into maturity in the Liberated Area, shared much in common in their literary career. Based on this, this paper aims to compare and contrast the two writers in the following three areas, namely the literary style, humanity theme, and personality ideal. In the first area, Zhao Shuli's works is characterized by its popular style, which is rooted in the writer's profound love for the culture of his native soil. Sun Li develops his elegant style by merging the feminine and gentle aesthetic model in the Chinese culture with the writing skills of modern Western literature. In the second area, Zhao Shuli portrays the social conflict in the rural area with his keen perception of the moral weaknesses of the Chinese people. Sun Li, nevertheless, insists that writers always side with the true, the good and the beautiful. During the Cultural Revolution, both of them adhered to the humanity spirit of intellectuals, with Zhao steeped in the Confucianist culture and Sun influenced both the Confucianism and Daoism as well.Gao Hong(Chinese Contemporary Literature) Directed by Associate Professor Liu Yingzheng...
