The New National language Grammar that was published in 1924 by Mr Li Jin-xi is the first work that describes the vernacular grammar of its own special system. It is not only a model work of theoretical grammar, but also of pedagogical grammar. So it has had great effects on teaching and the study of the Chinese grammar. In order to inheriting and developing the knowledge and prompting dev- element of our country's Linguistic. At the 80th anniversary of publishing of the New National Language Grammar. On the basis of the achievements of the older generation, we will try to discuss its everlasting merit in establishing the modern language grammar system and point out the work's shortages. Doing this is better to carry on the fine tradition of the academic studies from the pioneers and is m-ore profound to understand the work.The main body of the thesis consists of four parts:The first part: the author and the editions of the work. This part will introduce the author's main career and achievements. We can find out the creativity of Mr Li in scholarship from the different editions and also can realize the improvements of grammar studying in our country.The second part: The background of the work. The work was born during the period of the May 4th New Culture Moment. It is the first work that studies the vernacular grammar methodically and makes the oral language and the written language consistent, thus promoting the national language moment.The third part: The contents of the work. Mr L initiates the theory of thesent- ence-based .He divides the sentence into six parts and classifies the words on the basis of the elements that they undertake in the sentence. With the six parts, the work points out seven "units" of the substance word. Then, We can analyze the simple sentences, the elliptical sentences and the inverted sentences, furthermore, the compound sentences, assemble sentences, paragraphs and even the chapters. In short, this is a theoretical frame about controlling words, seven units, word or- de and even the compound sentences.The forth part: How to evaluate the work. This part is the most important one in the thesis. So the author will evaluate it from the both sides: achievements and shortages.
