The categorization of word class, especially in Chinese and English, has been an impenetrable barrier like Goldbach Conjecture in linguistics and a hot and difficult issue among linguists. Along with the heated craze for Chinese, the unsolved categorization in Chinese makes the teaching Chinese as a second language(TCSL) facing tons of difficulties,particularly in word class tagging in textbook.The Two-level word class categorization model(TWCC) was proposed by Professor Wang Renqiang in 2014. This model takes the perspective of language as an complex adaptive system as its theoretical basis, and is intended to tackle the multifunctionality or heterosemy issue in analytic languages like Modern Chinese and Modern English. TWCC contributes a lot to grasp differences and relations in categorizations between word type in lexicon in a communal language and word token in syntax, what's more, t puts forward four standards——token frequency?type frequency?time span and register distribution to estimate the phase change of word class. TWCC plays an important enlightening function in word class tagging of modern Chinese dictionary and corpora.In our empirical study we conduct on the basis of modern Chinese corpus and the textbooks of TCSL and it turns out there are two totally opposite opinions in the principle of word class tagging: comprehensiveness and uniqueness. That's to say, we can divide word class tagging in textbook of TCSL into two kinds. One is detailed description, the other is only included word class which appears in the text. But either of the two kinds has right theoretical guidance or correct word class tagging. In our research, we choose Developing Chinese(second edition, 6textbooks in all) as our research material and we find out in the total number of4291 new word, 91.82%(that is 3931 new words) has word class labeling. In the3931 new words, we find out 80 problematic words, mostly multi-category words and separable words. The main reason for the situation is that we don not find out differences and relations in categorizations between word type in lexicon in a communal language and word token in syntax.We conduct our research on the basis of the TWCC and choose DevelopingChinese as research material, trying to make the combination of linguistic theory and word class tagging. Our research can effectively avoid disconnection between theory and practice, further our study and improve the quality of textbooks.Therefore, our research has important academic and application value.
