On Patriciding Theme Of Su Tong's Novel

When we look back upon the Chinese literature of late 20th century , we can not avoid an important writer who is named Su Tong. As a pioneering writer, Su is less important than Ma Yuan who was a milestone in Chinese comtemperary literature. Fortunately, a theme of patricding which is included with anti-tradition and invention of pioneering is always running through in his works. In literature, the relationship between father and son not only refers to blood relationship, but also contain a constructure of surpassing which means center, tradition and power. Therefore, a similar constructure is available among father\son, tradition\modern and center\fringe, which renders the symbolic image of father be included with abundant culture and historic meaning. This paper tries to put the emphasis upon the theme of patriciding and to evaluate and analyse Su Tongs'works in the field of Chinese 20th Century literature.1, The Chang Of The Theme Of PatricidingIn the 20th century literature of China,"father"who is a symbol of tradition,authority,life and cultural resources is always an unavoidable the topic in literature. The symbolic image of "father"was supposed to be an enemy in the works written by the authors of the period of"May 4th"and then was a target of being lashed,being overturning and being revolutionized. At the end of 1940's, the New Orientation of Literature was fixed. As a result, literature has being a part of the whole revolutionary works of the proletarian and was regarded as the gear and screw of revolutionary machine and at last it became the vassal of the political authority . The theme of patriciding gradually disappeared. In the tide of reforming during the mid-1980's, the Chinese elite began to think and explore the way how to realize the modernization and to doubt the authority and traditional culture. From the mid-1980s'on, literature began to seek its roots, which embody a passionate symdrome of looking for father. Yet, at the same time, the literatureal creation of pioneer appeared with a pose rebelling against the Literature Of Seeking Father: PATRICIDING.2.Dverturning the authority's words. In Su Tong's novel, fleeing from home is an image which appears over and over. In fact, Fleeing from home means disappointedment with the hometown and alienation from "Father". For some extent, fleeing from home is a necessary transition to patriciding. The role of "Father" is always absent when stating and remembering the past and history in Su Tong's novel. Even "father"was present in some novel ,and his image was always blasphemed, vilified and exaggeravely twisted. In Su's narration, "Father" was murdered by the form of absence. The author expressed the theme of patriciding in a way of metaphor. Maybe his internal character or his remaining cultural remembrance makes Su Tong keep a distance between his narration and the reality and state history or remember the past with an eccentric enthusiasm to describe the old times. In fact, his action means a depressed escape from power, which was presented in his novel by the way if desalinating or escaping the main stream of ideology. This is the strategy of Su Tong's theme of patriciding: to integrate the culture by taking advomtage of the shortage of ideology to smashing the ideology.The theme of patriciding also manifested itself to overture the social historic view which stems from the reasonism. The time pattern in Su Tong's narration is quite different from that of reasonism and embodies a traditional time pattern .Su Tong's non-linear understanding time and his feeling the circulation of person and affairs broke the stating pattern about time of the authority words in the 20th century literature of China and overthrew the social historic view in it and denied the way to explain history.In Su Tong's historic texts, the doubt about the reality of history means utterly debating the main existence of history.
