During her writing career that has spanned five decades, Lessing has created novels, short stories, essays, dramas, autobiography, etc. Her works have covered most of the important issues in 20th century, such as racial problem, amphoteric relationship, environmental pollution, youth violence and ageing problem. Her novels have been translated into other languages and have got the international influence widely.Love, again, published in 1996, was written by Lessing at the age of 76, and this time Lessing shows her particular concern on a group of the marginalized existence—the ageing women, and of course, the novel proved for the readers of her talent in portraying the elder women's psychological world and her braveness in trying this unfamiliar topic. Through the vivid depiction of the psychology of the protagonist, 65-age-old Sarah, Lessing showed the readers Sarah's torment under the oppression of love, which made us think more. This dissertation intends to explore the inside world of the ageing women, thereby expose the theme of love, again via the analysis of characters, psychology and writing techniques. This paper consists of four parts:Part One: Introduction: Doris Lessing and her works.Part Two: love, again, a novel of ageing women's issue. This part introduces the novel and explores the practical meaning and importance of analyzing the theme of love, again through the analysis of the present situation of ageing people.Part Three: Interpreting love, again. This part is the core of this dissertation. It reveals the theme of this novel via the analysis of relationship between the main characters and the writing skills and elaborate how the theme reflected through different aspects. Part Four: Conclusion.
