After reviewing the problem of "chung Hsiao" before Tang Dynasty the paper, taking "Hsiao" as a center, inspects the people's ideologically understanding on "Chung" and "Hsiao" and their activities. From the research, we can discover that people in Tang dynasty took "Hsiao" seriously, and they were filial to parents. In ideology, they thought there were two aspect in "Hsiao", filial piety to parents. Firstly, when parents were alive, children should be respectful and submissive, they should do as their parents asked, and carried on parent's will. After parents died, the children should bury them and held memorial ceremony. Besides parents, children also should do like this to their ancestor, bothers, seniors in the same patriarchal clan, stepparents, and so on. All of ancestors should be given memorial ceremony on time, and their will should be succeeded. Secondly, children should take themselves, no matter body or mind, as a part of their ancestors'. They were parents' continuance. They should try their best to perform meritorious deeds and establish the cause, to get fame for their clan. But we should point out that, no matter before or after Tang Dynasty, ignorantly "filial piety to parents" was not approved. To enforce "Hsiao", the milers of Tany Dynasty advocated it strongly in all kinds of ways. Such as avoiding taxes and corvee, awarding a official position, etc. In Tang Dynasty, children's "filial piety to parents" in the daily life was regulated in detail. At the same time, "Hsiao" was stroken root in the hearts of people and also became a consciously activity. In addition, there were some restricts on children's "Hsiao" in the law of tang Dynasty. Therefore, in Tang Dynasty, most people were filial to their parents. Until now, we can find its effect in our society.People's understanding on "chung" had a changble process. It gradually changed from the principle to the attitude, ie, the mass attitude to the emperor and the country, especially the official's attitude to the empery. The mass "chung", loyalty to the emperor, must be with all their heart. They should give the emperor gord advice. And also they should bend their back to the task until their dying day. Secondly, when the country was in danger, and the emperor was tyrannical or coward, the official should fulfill his duty, regardless of his own safty even, his life. At that time, "chung jie" became the primary content, of "chung". People in Tang Dynasty paid much attention to the performing meritorious deeds and establishing their cause. But "servicing only for an emperor" was not the mainstream in people's recognition in Tang Dynasty.
