Currently, urban development in China has entered a rapid changing era. Comparing with other urban components, public art is playing a significant role by promoting urban environment development, conveying public emotion and utilizing aesthetic resources in our modern city public spaces.Public art is a art form which has mankind as its value core, city public environment and public facility as its working goal, and various medium as its carrier. Although urban sculpture art is just one element of public art, it interprets and extends the meaning of its surrounding environment. A harmonized relationship between sculpture art and its associate environment presents the cultural consolidation of public art. Sculpture art in urban public space becomes more and more considerable while public art design has entered a humanism and environment sustainable age.There are various theories about sculpture art or public art, however, there is no, or very limited theories which combine these two art forms in China now a days. Therefore, this thesis, "About the urban sculpture in the public environment design", will not only analyze the real cultural value and developing direction which support the existence of the modern public art, but also try to find out the reasons for existing problems of public art by studying the current situation of contemporary sculpture art which exists within modern public art. A further intention of this thesis is to explode social expectation and cultural theory of public art in China by establishing a platform for Chinese public art ideology and its value assessment, providing value reference system for the social function, cultural connotation, artistic motivation and essence of public art, and building a public art system which is suitable for the continuous and steady development of future human society.The research methodology of this thesis is to analyze the flourishing contemporary urban public art by studying urban environment aesthetics, geography and art. Also, This thesis employs the technique of cross examining and comparing natural environment and human society, science and art in order to ascertain the law which could solve the problems during public art development.
