Cybernetics is an outcome of the cooperation of multiple principles, and it in turn has greatly influenced many a principle in both epistemology and methodology. This study combines cybernetics with FLT (foreign language teaching), and analyzes the characteristics and laws of FLT from the perspective of cybernetics in order to grasp the dynamic process of FLT and CET in a holistic way. This study is divided into two aspects: in theory, a cybernetics model of FLT is constructed after different schools of educational psychology which have greatly influenced the FLT theories are inspected from the perspective of cybernetics; in practice, the model is applied to CET to approve its feasibility. From the perspective of cybernetics, the different schools of educational psychology, including behaviorism, cognitive theory (including information processing and constructivism), humanism and social interactionism, can all be embedded into the framework of cybernetics. The essence of their difference is their different emphasis on the complex system of education. The cybernetics model of FLT constructed in this study encompasses the strengths of the different schools of educational psychology and, particularly, includes the construction of the collective meanings, which is what other models neglect.Through the empirical study of two college English classes, the findings show that in the process of CET, the integration of collective meaning can help achieve the optimization of the teaching-learning process, in which the control of the teacher plays a decisive role. Thus it proves that the cybernetics model is not only powerful in explaining the process of CET in theory, but also feasible in practice.
