Yiyang county is located in the northeast of Jiangxi Province and its dialectbelongs to Ying-Yi section of the Gan dialect, which has typical meanings andsignificant value in research. This paper takes the Yiyang dialect as the researchobject and makes a systematic approach to its phonetic system, and hopes to makepeople have an overall understanding to Yiyang dialect and provides the substantialmaterial for research on Yiyang dialect and Gan dialect. The paper consists of six chapters. After outlining Yiyang cultural setting andgeographic traits, the first chapter presents the essential feature of Yiyang dialecticalphonetics in four aspects. The second chapter mainly describes the phonetic system of Yiyang dialect.Through systematic analysis, we find there are twenty initial consonants, fifty-twovowels and six tones in Yiyang dialect, then the article further depicts theirassociation and some special language phenomena about Yiyang dialect, etc. The third chapter collects one thousand and eighty-nine groups of homonym andgives references to some of them. The fourth chapter makes a comparison between Yiyang dialect and PekingMandarin in order to find the rule of differences in pronunciation, and attempts toprovide guidelines about how to learn Mandarin well. The fifth chapter also makes a contrast between Yiyang dialect and medievalChinese phonetics, and finds out the differences between them. The last chapter is the conclusion to further sum up the characteristics of Yiyangdialect. At the same time the article points out Yiyang dialect research is a matter ofurgency.
