England experienced the rising and decaying of Tudor dynasty and Stuart dynasty in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It was an era of revolution and development that the breakthrough happened in economy,politics and thought. Under this background, the transition of English historiography happened accordingly. On one hand, English historiography changed in kinds, languages, scholars and thought. On the other hand, these changes revealed historical independence from the theology, literature as well. Although there existed many deficiencies in the English historiography, it prepared necessary factors for the flourishing in the eighteenth century and became a key-stage. The thesis bases on the achievements of several fields, such as the history of culture, nation, military, politics, institution and law. Through comparing with the condition of English historiography chronologically and contemporarily, the author tries to reveal the transition of English historiography and the relationship between the historiography, literature and society in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. This thesis includes three sections:Preface,Text and Conclusion. Preface : An introduction to the reason,present condition and value of the thesis. Text: Part â… :The background of transition of English historiography in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The author summaries the English economy, politics and social ideas. Part â…¡:The transition of English historiography in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The author narrates the English historical variations in this part. Part â…¢:The transition of English historiography and cultural variation. The author describes the course of historical independence from literature by discussing the dependence and separation between the historiography and literature. Part â…£:The transition of English historiography and social transformation. The author discusses the relationship between them. Conclusion :A summary of the four chapters.
