As the progressing of the market economy system during 1990s, the society character of this period is described by people with the word transformation usually. Moreover, this description infiltrated into the field the study of literature theory. The premise on that many scholars worked to study the literature theory in 1990s is that the transformation issued from the reform of economy system. Reform of economy system is not only limited in itself but resulted in the transformation in the filed of culture. This transformation resulted in the change in people's idea naturally, then in the change of idea state of intellectual and learning. In the concrete learning, by many contrasts between the 1980s and the 1990s, scholars drew the conclusion of transformation. Therefore, the transformation became a noticeable core word. The theory of transformation not only became the mainstream to grasp the argument in 1990s, but it is the root that gave birth to many new concepts in literature theory. To sum up, the transformation is an important principle by that can grasp main character in 1990s literature theory study. So, the study on the theory that embodies the distinctive character of 1990s, the sum of the background and cause of that era and the analysis on its feature and defect are significant for us to completely and correctly grasp the characteristics of literature theory study in 1990s.In the first chapter of this thesis, it analyzed the causes that the transformation theory came into being in 1990s from two aspects. In the second, it discussed several characters of transformation theory to prove that the true implication of transformation is the changing of literature theory study's model. Although there are different ideas about changing model of the transformation, the transformation aim is clear that is to set up a completely new model in the study of literature theory. In the third, it mainly discussed the defects in the transformation theory and point out that the main defect is too simple on the summing up to the study of literature theory in 1990s. In the last, it probes into the relation between the transformation theory and the pluralism, and drew the conclusion that the transformation theory will inevitably result in acceptation of pluralism widely. This is the most important significance of the transformation theory study in 1990s.
