Tibet, the important region in the west of China, attracts numerous researchers from ancient to present because of its specialties in politics, nation and culture. As a result, the image of it can be seen everywhere in writings, drawings and photographs, but among those research, thereis no focus on the abstract symbol meaning of Tibet. This essay tells the differences between Tibet as the geographic location and as history culture symbol and establishes the feasibility of symbol research. During the process of study, the essay analyzes Tibet' s image in compositions and in other culture texts such as advertising, photography and tourism. Further more, from the view of symbol analysis, it discusses multiple meaning of Tibet symbol, relationship between producers, the ways of producing, and relation between production and real life, after putting the producing and consumption of Tibet symbol in nowadays society. Though investigation, we find that Tibet symbol is the result of spatial and social changes in new ages. Besides, production of Tibet symbol reveals ambivalent attitude combining gladness and reminiscence among producers (the people) in the modernization. This kind of attitude may, the problem people should be faced between freedoms of choice and lost of safety.
