Study Of Wang Siren's Xiaopin

Wang Siren is a famous Xiaopin writer in the late Ming Dynasty. As a literator who was known for his writings, his creations embodies a trend from JingLing of late Ming to the diversity style in early Qing: all-inclusive, tolerant and emphasizing characteristics. And these are the soul of the essay spirit both in ancient and modern times. In all, there are three trends in the judge of Wang's Xiaopin: the first values its unique technique and his exploration of new phenomenon in late Ming; the second values the "self-expression" character and the humor in the essay; the third values the loyalty ,the rectitude and the toughness character of the Xiaopin.However there is no systematic discussion on the aspect of that how did Wang form a unique art style. This will be an imperfection when observing the essay style from late Ming to early Qing. And the discussion of the creation background, art characteristics and inspiration source of Wang in this paper aims at making up this imperfection. Moreover, it will try to reveal the special status of Wang in the change of essays in late Ming Dynasty.There are three chapters in this paper. The first chapter focuses on the life background that had influence on Wang's creation and tries to explore the establishment of his creation idea. From his official career, excursion,reading and Xiaoti, we can approximately see the wide range of subjectsand the creation attitude-- seeking greatness from small point . Thesecond chapter generalizes four art characteristics of Wang's Xiaopin: the first is humor with integrity, the second is the theme interpretation art, the third is Qing and Qu, the fourth is the novelty and originality. All these are based on the life background introduced in the first chapter. The third chapter explores the absorption and development of Wang's creation in essay history from the aspects of origin and influence.This paper tries to picture out a vision of essay history from late Ming to early Qing by the systematic discussion of Wang Siren's Xiaopin. It will lead to a better understanding of Wang's unique art charm. Moreover, it will discover the possibilities of essay vitality extension.
