The thesis deals with the negative sentences in Wuhan dialect. It intends to describe those fundamental negative sentences as thoroughly as possible. Then the thesis will abstrat and generalize the characteristics of Wuhan dialect in negative sentences by contrast with Mandarin.The thesis is composed of seven parts. The first part, introduction, introduces Wuhan city and its dialect resumptively, generalizes the actuality of the research in negation and manifests the point of the thesis. The second part introduces the negative sentences with "Bu". Part 3 introduces the negative sentences with "Mo". Part 4 introduces the negative sentences with "Mao" and "MaoDe". The fifth part pays attentions to other negative sentences. The sixth part, with Mandarin as the reference, summarizes the characteristics of these sentences. The last part concludes the whole thesis simply and points out the defects of it."Bu. Mo. Mao. MaoDe" are the most important negative words, so from part 2 to part 4 is the essential parts of this thesis."Bu", in Wuhan dialect, besides denying acts and characters, can form imperative sentences. We seldom use "BuNeng. BuHui" to express the meaning that some act cannot realize. We use the verb—complement structures instead, especially three structures that they not only connect with but also differ from each other, they're "Verb+Bu+Dao/Liao/De". The last aspect, "Bu" can form new negative words with other characters to indicate some new negative meanings."Mo" can form imperative sentences,too. When it comes to the concrete context, they're different from those sentences with "Bu". On the other hand, "Mo" and "Mo(Bu)Shi" related with it is able to express the tone of presumption.The word "MeiYou" in Mandarin is divided into two different words: the adverb "Mao" and the verb "MaoDe".
