Study On Ji'an Dialect's Grammar

This thesis investigates two types of grammatical phenomena with regard to local features in Ji'an County,Jiangxi Province.Specifically,morphological and syntactic structures are analysed.The former consists of clitics,pronouns,adjectives,and verb aspects.The latter involves double object sentences,disposition sentences,passive sentences,negative sentences,and interrogative sentences.This thesis is composed of eleven chapters.Following a brief introduction,Chapter 1 outlines the purpose of study,situates the background of Ji'an Country and its dialect,highlights the research status of dialect grammar of Gan dialect,Hakka dialect and Ji'an dialect,respectively.This chapter also presents research methodology,theoretical framework,source of corpora,and explanation of listed examples.Chapter 2 deals with affixes,which is of variety and specialty in Ji'an dialect.This chapter provides a comprehensive description of the dialect's meaning and usage,based on a framework of prefixes,infixes,and suffixes.To be more precise,prefix can be divided into typical prefix and similar prefix,suffix also can be divided into typical suffix and similar suffix.Chapter 3 discusses pronominal references in three types of pronouns,i.e.,personal pronouns,demonstrative pronouns,and interrogative pronouns.Specific descriptions are given according to their structural,functional and substituted usages.Chapter 4 provides a detailed analysis of adjectives,i.e.,attributive adjectives and descriptive adjectives based on different forms,as adjectives-related lexicons and structures have distinctive features according to their forms.Attributive adjectives consists of monosyllable and multisyllable ones,and descriptive adjectives includes attached,duplicable,intricate ones and four-word phrase.Specifically,attached descriptive adjectives include prefixes and suffixes;duplicable descriptive adjectives involve monosyllable and bisyllable duplications.Chapter 5 presents linear analysis in the verb aspects system of Ji'an dialect,which is of distinct local features.Before the analysis,a basic introduction is given in terms of verb aspects' name,definition,research status,and research methods accordingly.Verb aspects of Ji'an dialect mainly consist of perfective aspect,progressive aspect,durative aspect,experiencing aspect,pre-ingressive aspect,ingressive aspect,continuing aspect,perfect aspect,repetitive aspect,short-term aspect,attempted aspect,and do-it again respect.Chapter 6 introduces double object sentences in Ji'an dialect,with respect to their structures,verbs,objects,introductors "de,gen".This chapter also describes ambiguous double object sentences and complex double-object sentences.Chapter 7 highlights disposal sentences in narrow sense,other Ji'an dialectical expressions and their negative forms.With regard to narrow-sensed sentences,five types of lexicons are described:"ba","na","jiang","zhuo dao" and mixed ones.Chapter 8 analyses passive sentences in Ji'an dialect.This chapter mainly introduces two types of marked passive sentences,which separately comprises lexicon "ba" and "ba de".As for unmarked passive sentences,their syntactic structures,semantic features,and pragmatic values are discussed.Chapter 9 examines negative sentences.Based on negation markers,this chapter introduces "bu"(no)and "mao"(no)negative sentences in Ji'an dialect,and further compares the usage of markers thereof.Among those sentences,"bu"(no)negative sentences includes lexicons of "bu" and "bu neng","mao"(no)negative sentences involves lexicons of "mao" and "mao de".Chapter 10 focuses on Ji'an interrogative sentences,which are classified into structural and functional groups.This chapter first depicts structural sentences in terms of yes-no interrogative,special interrogative,alternative interrogative,and positive-negative interrogative.Then functional sentences are analyzed in rhetorical and additional aspects.Chapter 11 ends with an overall conclusion of this thesis.It summarizes major findings and implications,points out limitations and provides suggestions for future studies.
