The Research On The Biographies Which New Tang Book Supplements

In May 1045,Ouyang Xiu, Song Qi and the others who received the emperors orders had completed New Tang Book. Their purpose was to supplement the inadequacies of Old Book of Tang. However, there occurred some criticisms soon after its issue, for example, Wu Zhen's The Rectification of New Tang Book pointed out, the supplementary biographies of New Tang Book mostly came from the sketchbooks of Tang-Dynasty which was considered most of them were invented. And the editors didn't indicate the sources of these supplementary biographies. Some scholars such as Qian Daxin, Zhao Yi in Qing-Dynasty, Huang Yongnian in the present age had expatiated on the topic, but they still hadn't pointed out the sources of these supplementary biographies definitely. The dissertation will investigate the sources of these supplementary biographies, especially those coming from sketchbooks. The dissertation consists of four parts.Foreword part accounts for the achievements and the inadequacies which the older generation studied of the supplementary biographies of New Tang Book, and according to researching of Mr.Hang Yongnian, he divides the biographies which the New Tang Book supplemented into two kinds of situations. The first is that the New Book passing on the biographies of the Old Book, but has added some historical datum in addition. The second kind of situation is that the Old Book had no someone's biography but the New Books had added the biography, this kind of situation is a lot of. Among them the first kind of situation is not being originally involved in the article. The dissertation only researches of the historical datum source that the New Book supplemented the biographies newly. Compared with biographies in the Old Book of Tang ,the New Tang Book has roughly increased more than 9000 people. Because of era being remote, most historical datum had been lost, we have been unable to find these biographies' sources. We can only infer there are three kinds of historical datum sources of these biographies according to the content. First, some biography materials may come from their genealogical tables, Because of a famous stemma scholars, Ouyang Xiu is good at writing stemma. He could use a lot of stemma materials that had already lost. Second, a kind of biography materials come from the inscriptions.
