Face is a special stimulus to the vision and can provide plenty of social information. Facial recognition plays a very important role in human life. Now in the research field of facial recognition, the present researches are mainly on the rule of self-facial recognition, facial expression recognition, face specific mechanism, and facial recognition on children, etc. There are few studies on the influence of individual difference to facial recognition, and no experimental research on the influence on field cognition mode to facial recognition. Field cognition mode, as an important individual difference variable, influences cognitive activities. Therefore, the exploration of the influence on field cognition mode to facial recognition is of theoretical and practical significance. In theory, it can construct and perfect the theory of cognitive style and facial recognition, broaden the field of facial recognition, enrich the result of research; in practice, it helps to analyze many phenomena of facial recognition and enhances the performances on facial recognition. This research conducts three experiments by selecting representative aspect respectively from the pattern of facial presentation position of facial stimuli, and characteristics of facial races, aiming at reflecting some special of facial recognition, analyzing the influence of different field cognition mode to facial recognition.Experiment 1 was conducted on the basis of comparing three presenting patterns: full face (including internal and external features of face), external features of face, internal features of face, exploring the differences in facial recognition arisen by different facial patterns and field cognition mode.Experiment 2, by comparing the two stimuli orientations: upright face and inverted face, was conducted to investigate the differences of the recognition of upright face and inverted face by different field cognition mode.Experiment 3, by dividing faces into eastern and western and combining them with gender and field cognition mode, was conducted to compare their differences in facial recognition.By synthesizing the results of the experiments and relative discussions, this research supports the following conclusions:1. Performances of the recognition on total face, external features of face and internal features of face reduce in turn, the reaction time increase in turn and the accuracy reduce in turn. There are marked differences among those three.2. There is no significant difference both in the accuracy and the reaction time in the facial recognition of the same kind of presenting pattern arisen by different field cognition mode both.3. There are significant differences between the recognition of upright face and inverted face, the reaction time of upright face is shorter than that of the inverted , the accuracy of upright face is higher than that of the inverted , and the performance of the former is better than the latter.4. Field cognition mode has no significant influence on the recognition of upright face. In the recognition of inverted face, the reaction time of the group of field-independence is significantly shorter than that of the field-dependence; The accuracy of the group of field-independence is higher than that of the field-dependence but there is no significant difference between them.5. The recognition of the eastern face is better than that of the western face both in the accuracy and the reaction time.6. The differences in the reaction time and the accuracy are not significant when different field cognition modes are being used in recognizing the face of the same race.7. In facial recognition, the accuracy of the female in the experiment is better than that of the male.
