After the Second World War, U.S. Thailand policy had been changing. The dissertation bases on some files related, discusses the development of U.S. Thailand policy, analyses the real purpose of U.S. Thailand policy, in order to discovers American's cold war strategy towards Southeast Asia at the beginning of the cold war.The dissertation is composed of the introduction, four chapters and conclusion.The introduction introduces the present situation research about U.S. Thailand policy, the academic value and practical significance.The first chapter discusses the origin of U.S. Thailand policy. U.S. Thailand relations started at the beginning of 19 century. At that time, capitalist countries expanded rapidly, and Thailand was forced to open the door. Because the establishment of American is not long and not stronger enough, at that stage American's policy towards Thailand followed British. During the Second World War, Thailand relied on Japan and claimed war to American and British, which made U.S. Thailand policy complex.The body of the dissertation is the second, third and fourth chapter. The second chapter discusses America's policy towards Pridi Administration. At the end of the Second World War, Pridi came into power. British dominated Thailand's economy since the middle of 19 century, while America tried to expand to Southeast Asia after the Second World War, so America contested with British in Thailand dramatically. The chapter analyses the reason that America played Pridi cool and supported Democrat Party.The third chapter discusses the transformation of U.S. Thailand policy. After the coup of November, 1947, America actively supported Kuang Administration, in order to push democrat which is accorded with American interest. However, Kuang Administration overturned soon. After that, America realized that only strong military government was set up in Thailand, did the stabilization of Thailand and the whole Southeast Asia keep, thus American interest came into true. So America turned her step to phibun. Obtaining aids is the main aim of Thailand's diplomacy after the Second World War. America reacted differently because of the difference of the object and the assessment of Thailand's situation.The fourth chapter explores the formation of the league of U.S. Thailand. Becauseof the establishment of People's Republic of China and the broke of the Korean war, the National Security Council formulated and implement NSC48. Thailand was regarded as a unique country in Southeast Asia. America supplied economy, technology and military aids to Thailand. Finally, the league of U.S. Thailand formed.The conclusion outlines the skeleton, character and influence of U.S. Thailand policy.
