In TEFL practice, it has been a never-ending phenomenon for the students to make errors and therefore a thorny problem for the teachers to solve. Then what types of errors do the Chinese middle school students often commit? What causes them to make these errors? What attitude should we adopt towards errors when they occur? And what implications do we get from the analysis of these errors? These questions are the major concern of this essay and are discussed in the following parts: Part One sets out to trace the origins of Error Analysis in the field of Second Language Acquisition research and presents the main achievements by different researchers in EA. The author points out the significance of EA in language pedagogy. Part Two describes the main steps of the case study and makes a classification of the learner errors. The author first introduces the background and steps of the case study; then introduces three influential taxonomies in linguistic field on the errors of language two learners; and finally absorbs the good points of the taxonomies by some experts and classifies the errors found from the case study made by Chinese middle school students into 9 types. Part Three explores the possible causes of the learner errors with the data gained from the case study. Part Four provides an eclectic attitude and some implications from the analysis of learner errors.
