The Origin And The Evolution Of The Concept On "Romantic" In China

The development of the Chinese modern literature theory is along with thechange of age's progress, the literature theory from the late Qing dynasty to the May4th period is on the transformation stage that a connecting link between the precedingand the following. This period, the succeed to the ancient literature theory and the usefor reference of the western literature theory' terms that all are close with theparticular age background, this is a process of smelting, and also a juncture ofdevelopment at that time. So, clearing up key esthetics concepts at that time can helpto carry out the contemporary literature theory's field better development andtransformation. When speaking of the "romance", very natural, people's attention will changedirection to the topic of "romanticism" which is so familiar that someone may getfed up ,and scholar's opinions differ from each other, but may leave the essence of thisword more and more far. And that, my thesis mainly commences on clearing up thekey concept , with to the excavation of the historical fact for foundation, in order toannounce the evolutive process of the key esthetics concept of "romance", and thendiscuss the forepart "indigenization" process of the western romanticism which quathe historical literature trend of thought. In the modern society, the most typical academic phenomenon is the gradualentry of western knowledge into China, the importation of the lately- thoughts meanthe importation of the new speeches namely. In 1902 Liang Qichao clearly divided theliterature into "realistic style" and the "ideal style" the first time. After the expressionof "ideal", Lu Xun started to use the expression of "romance"in 1907. "Romance"hasbeen followed to be used, until in 1920 Liang Qichao put forward the expression of"romantic". From " ideal", " romance" to " romantic ", these terms were all borrowedfrom the ready-made translation of Japan. The evolution of these terms is certainly notonly the variation of the form, containing in deep is the development of the thoughtand the deepened theory. In fact, in our country the expression of " romance "already has been had from ofold. From the Chinese ancient origin of the expression of "romance" could be seen,this expression was from the idea of free spirit to the description of the artistic style,and then in the May 4th period it was used as the literature trend of thought. But inthis evolutive process, it gradually losed its most original connotation. Certainly, thisis the literature trend of thought that China turned, which has the inseparable relationwith the verse's "main feeling" tradition and the historical background of China then. This is also an evolutive process of assimilating China and the western culture,on this foundation, then we can aim to develop the Chinese modern literature theoryof the indigenization.
