With the rapid development of Information Technology and Internet Technology, e-learning, as a new form of learning method, is invented and developed. In the western countries where the practice and research on e-learning have been relatively advanced, the focus of the research on e-learning has been switched from merely studying on the technical problems to the study on the effectiveness of e-learning. In China, this kind switch of focus of research is still relatively backwards. Lots of people still hold the 'Technique Determinism' and 'Hardware Determinism', while negalecting the importance of the soft side of e-learning. This research is about applying the cognitive learning theory to e-learning, by which we expect to influence the learners' mental model and furtherly enhance the effectiveness of the learning result. This research is based on designing a real e-learing course and questionnaire, applying the related cognitive learning theory and theory on mental model, and try the Economictrix analysis & experiemental study on 60 volunteers. The content and achievement of this research can be divided into three sections. The first section is about the introduction and literature review. The second part is about the experimental study. In part, we apply Gagne's 'cognitive learning theory' and Ausubel & Norman's related theory on mental model in order to design, measure, and analyze an e-learning course. The last section of this research is about the conclusions and suggestions.
