| This article analyzed the present situation of language used in Du' an and Luocheng county in GuangXi province by conducting a scientific survey in about 20 towns in the two counties. Using information and data from interview and questionnaire, the author points out some facts that affect the usage and functions toward languages in these regions. There are three features:Firstly, in Du' an county , the mother tongue of Yao people has not been widely used. In fact, many Yao people are learning and speaking other minoritionalities' languages , such as language of Zhuang people. The interpretation of Yao people' s language usage may be based on the relationship between Yao and Zhuang people. The strong influence from Zhuang people , both in economical and cultural fields has greatly affected the language usage of Yao people.Secondly, in Luocheng county , Mulao people have a deep feeling and loyalty to their language. It can be seen that their language has been well kept and developed . Mulao people also show good ability to learn and use other minoritionalities' languages , especially the language of Han people. This may be explained by the deep interdependence between Mulao and Han people.Thirdly , by contrasting and analyzing many data , the author points out that to improve people's ability in using Putonghua , education should play an important role.
