This paper explores the cause and classification of the phenomenon in which function words used in context to express undefined meaning. There are some examples to explain this phenomenon. The phenomenon of function word stem form the grammatical meaning, and it is concrete and contingent. But it not only is indispensable to social intercourse but also has plenty of conversational implicature. It is worth researching as an important linguistics topic.The paper mainly discusses four problems. First, the phenomenon of which function words used in context can express undefined meaning. The reason of pragmatics includes context, conversational implicature, presupposition and speech acts. Second, it sometimes is hidden, and sometimes is visible. When it is hidden, it can have lots of conversational implicature and mean that a word is commendatory or derogatory. When it is visible, it can be grasped with the connection phrase language and the pronunciation of function word being emphasized. Third, the paper analyzes some examples. It can be divided into three parts: adverb, an auxiliary and the connection phrase language. Forth, the phenomenon is an important part of social intercourse. It can have lots of conversational implicature and express the emotion. But people should be good at making use of it. And it is advantageous to leaning function words in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language.
