Study On Adverbial And Er(而)

In modern Chinese,sometimes Er (而) appears after the adverbial,for example,Hu xiao erguo(呼啸而过);sometimes Er(而)doesn't appear after the adverbial,for example,Tong guonei yin qi zuo yong(通过内因起作用). This is the phenomenon this paper deals with,and it isdiscussed in two aspects. One is the overall description according to the appearance of Er(而).The other is the function of Er(而) when it is used after the adverbial. 　 This paper is dividedinto 6 parts.　 Part zero makes a brief statement about the study on Er(而) by grammarians, specifies thescope of adverbial we are going to use, explains why we regard"由于" and the like aspreposition. Part one studies four different types when Er(而) is required after the adverbial. Part two studies seven different types when Er(而) mustn't be used after the adverbial..　 Part three discusses nine different types when Er(而) can be used after the adverbial,but italso can be omitted. Part four discusses seven elements that have an effect on the use of Er(而). In this section,we also discusses the function of Er(而). In part five, we list some difficulties in analyzing this phenomenon.
