In Chinese, adjectives can usually be used as attributive, and the meaning points to the subject when modifying the subject. At the same time, some adjectives can also be used as adverbials, modifying the predicate when the meaning points to the predicate. However, there is also a phenomenon in Chinese, that is,the adjective is in the adverbial position before the predicate, which modifies the predicate verb grammatically and points to the subject semantically. Therefore,in view of this sentence deviation, this paper discusses the adverbial structures that adjectives refer to the subject in Modern Chinese from three angles: grammatical restriction, grammatical consequence and textual function. The first chapter is introduction. This chapter first explains the significance of the topic, and then discusses the status quo of the research on the adjective of the adjective of the subject, and briefly explains the source of the theoretical method used in this paper. The second chapter describes adjectives referring to the subject that can enter the adverbial position. The research object of this paper is based on The Dictionary Of Adjective Usage(2010).The adjectives that can be entered are divided into two categories: subject and object.Among them, subject is divided into internal characteristics, external characteristics, evaluation, human body, and object is divided into space, vision, and touch. The third chapter analyzes the grammatical restriction of the subject sentence. Not all adverbial adjectives can enter the adverbial position, and the characteristics of typical adverbial adjectives need to be explained clearly. It is mainly analyzed from three aspects: semantic restriction, syntactic restriction and semantic coordination principle. The fourth chapter discusses the grammatical consequences of referring to the subject adjective as an adverbial.By using the transitivity theory proposed by Hopper&Thompson(1980),this paper observes the changes of sentence components after the subject adjective enters the form position.Specifically,it is explained from the aspects of agent intention, verb action, object initiation and so on.The fifth chapter discusses the textual function of the adverbial structures that adjectives refer to the subject.Through the description of the discourse expression of the adverbial sentence and the textual commonness of the adverbial sentence and the attributive sentence, the paper finds out the differences of the textual structure in the three cases. It is mainly carried out from three aspects: the first is whether the subject of the definite sentence or the adverbial sentence revolves around the main line of the text, the second is that the attribute of the adjective wants to express its temporariness or constancy, and the third is whether the object’s retroactive nature is strong or weak. The sixth chapter is the conclusion.List the main conclusions of this paper and put forward the problems to be discussed.
