From the view of syntactic, semantic and pragmatic, this thesis made a multi-dimentional research of the noun-pointing adverbial which is the typical syntactic constituent as an inconformity in form and meaning in Modern Chinese. Besides the Introduction and Conclusion, this thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter One first confirms the research range of this paper based on generalizing the judging criteria of the noun-pointing adverbial. Then according to the position differences of pointed constituents in the noun-pointing adverbials, this paper describes multiple semantics-pointing types of the noun-pointing adverbials. And it also divides the noun-pointing adverbial into some little types according to different criteria.Chapter Two mainly studies the noun-pointing adverbial, the pointed constituent of the noun-pointing adverbial, the verb connected with the noun-pointing adverbial in sentence structure. It focuses mainly on the "de (地)" which is followed by the noun-pointing adverbial, so that we can realize its multiple functions when it is the sentence structure mark of the noun-pointing adverbial. By describing the syntactic distribution of adverbial structure which is composed of the noun-pointing adverbial and verb, the author summarizes its syntactic functions.Chapter Three center on the analysis of the semantic basis of the noun-pointing adverbial. First, based on the semantic relation between the noun-pointing adverbial and pointed object, this chapter classifies the modifiers which indicate objects, and show clearly the semantic field of material quality which is implicated in the noun-pointing adverbial. Then, from the semantic relation between the noun-pointing adverbial and verb, this chapter discusses the concrete manifests of the activity which is implicated in the noun-pointing adverbial, and observes and studies the semantic field of the activity.Chapter Four generalizes the sentence meaning of the noun-pointing adverbial and analysis the verb-core structure of the noun-pointing adverbial based on the Construction Grammar. According to the different meanings of the little sentences divided from the noun-pointing adverbial, this chapter classifies it into five types: people-describing adverbial sentence, thing- describing adverbial sentence, causal adverbial sentence, and existential adverbial sentence noumenal adverbial sentence. The author also studies the interactive constraints on the relevant constituents in these the noun-pointing adverbials. Lastly, this chapter concludes the requirements it needs when the noun-pointing adverbial shifts to be an attribute, and points out its two situations (original meaning shifting and semantic deviation shifting.Chapter Five makes a multi-level analysis of the causes of adverbial potation shifting for the noun-pointing adverbial. We find out that there are mainly three causes:pragmatic cause, cognitive cause and textual cause. The author argues that pragmatic cause appears as that the noun-pointing adverbial is not only an ostensive behavior language, but also the strong principal focus of the clause; the cognitive cause can be explained in these aspects such as distance iconicity, sequencing iconicity and the principle of economy; the textual cause includes two aspects: syntactic structure and anaphora.
