Taoist thoughts is the main component in Chinese traditional ideology, whichoffers a wide range for academic research in Chinese philosophy. The Classic of theWay and Its Virtue written by Lao Zi, the pioneer of the School of Taoism who leftbehind cherish cultural legacy for descendents, consists of five thousand words, isconcise expression with profound meaning and has been always honored as "philosophypoet". It covers philosophy, ethics, politics, military etc. It is not purely from philosophyto philosophy, from ethics to ethics, politics to politics, but compares and probes intothe problems concerned with society, human life from a deeper view of points long inhistory. Thereafter, the Classic of the Way and Its Virtue is one of the great philosophyworks with huge influence both at home and abroad, whether in ancient or incontemporary times. Under the misguidance of the human-centralism, ecological environment suffersheavy damage. People get its payback. The contradiction between human beings andnature is increasingly sharpening. This thesis firstly discusses the present conditions ofecological crisis and the sense of the ecology values, then unscrambles the richecological intelligence and the core concepts "the Way" and "actionlessness", revealingperish cultural wealth so as to study and solve the contradiction between human beingand nature. Though, compared to the Western ecological philosophy, there exists differentunderstanding of the concept "nature", the principle of "the Way" and "actionlessness"shares with Western modern deep-seated ecological sense. They both clearly claim theuniversal view with the property as a whole adapting to nature to achieve the harmonybetween human being and nature. The analysis of Confucianism and Buddhism helps us not only feel the Chinesetraditional culture varied in form and rich in content, but admire Lao Zi's consciousnessof the environment protection. The explanation of Taoist ecological idea makes us feelthe deep effect on Confucianism and Buddhism. The modern annotation of the ecologywisdom in the Classic of the Way and the Virtue shows Lao Zi's profound attitude tonature, which is still of great significance to the people in the 21th century. Nowadays itis also the valuable spiritual wealth which we can borrow in the ecologybalance-keeping and environment protection. It serves us in the ever-lastingdevelopment and in the building of harmonious society in the course of our socialistmodernization. The creation of this thesis lies in it that unlike in tradition, we annotate the contentin the 25th chapter of the Classic of the Way and its Virtue in a different new way, according to which we put forward some new opinions on the understanding of Lao Zi's"the Way of Self-so". The subject discussed in this thesis is of great importance both intheory and in practice, especially for the ever-lasting development project andharmonious society building in modern times.
