The Role Of Visuospatial Working Memory And Direction Effect During The Process Of Construct And Update Spatial Situation

There were four experiments explored how the reader comprehend the text including spatial information and construct and update spatial situation model. The materials were the simple spatial information texts and the indexes were reaction time and right rate.The results indicated: (1) The direction effect during the reader constructing and updating spatial situation model. The mode of reaction time is front-back< left-right. But, during the updating process the mode of the right judgment number is front-back= left-right. (2) Further analyzes, we found the number of front-back right-judgment does not affect by time-limiting, but the number of left-right right-judgment reduces remarkably because of time-limiting. (3) The individual difference of the visuospatial working memory appears when the reader has enough time to construct the situation. So, in the time-limiting task the individual difference is not remarkable. In the updating situation task without time-limiting, the reader with high span can judge the direction of right-left faster.
