Jin's criticism in the West Chamber is one of "Six Gifted Scholar's Books"criticized by Jin sheng-tan. This book is the quintessence of his literary theoretical ideology, which involves substantial content about literary creation, criticism and appreciation. With referring to narratology, this paper explains Jin's narrative theory and expounds his important theoretical value. This paper is made up of three sections: index epigraph, text and peroration. The epigraph part introduces Jin sheng-tan's biography, edition of Jin's comments on the West Chamber and conception on narratology and Chinese ancient narrative theory. The text part includes three aspects: comments of narrative strategy, function and methods. First, "Seeing there and writing here"—comments of narrative strategy. The writer tries to explain the Jin's strategy from three aspects: "Gazing at erdu(阿堵)", "expressing from far away"and "spiraling now to the left and now to the right". At the same time, writer discusses the value and significance of this strategy. Second, "With the intention of 'wen'(文) but not the matter"—comments of narrative function. The writer tries to explain the narrative function about character and plot. Third, "Jin Zhen Jin Du(金针尽度)"—comments of narrative method. Referring to the book, the writer inquires into the narrative methods of "Nuo Zhan (那辗)", "Yue Du Hui Lang(月度回廊)","Yi Tang Jiu Shu(移堂就树)", "Jie Gu Jie Hui(羯鼓解秽)"and "Hong Yun Tuo Yue(烘云托月)".  In the part of peroration, the writer points out the unique contribution of studying narrative theory of the West Chamber criticized by Jin shengtan and its drawback.
