This thesis mainly studies the aspect auxiliary in "The journey to the west". It carries on a multidimensional study on the grammar character, semantics expression and pragmaitcs value to achieve a systematic description and analysis of aspect auxiliary in the book. On this basis a comparison between the modern and the ancient Chinese is made in order to have a complete view of the aspect auxiliary system prevalent in the book and the period of the Ming Dynasty.The thesis is divided into 7 parts:Introduction: It introduces the current research on the aspect auxiliary, the value of Language in "The journey to the west", the significance of the subject and research methodologies of this thesis.Charter 1: The aspect auxiliary "了" .On the basis of the grammaticalizaed classification, "了" is classified into four categories .Situation types of verb is carried on to analyze the various usages of "了". It points out the difference usages of "了" between the book and the contemporary Chinese and discusses the related questions about the process of grammaticalizing of "了" .Charter 2: The aspect auxiliary "得 " . It investigates three types aspect meaning of "得" and the cause of disappearance of "得" as an aspect auxiliary in term of syntactic structures and syntagmatic relation between verb and object.Charter 3: The aspect auxiliary "将" . Based on syntactic structures and semantic relation among "将" , verbs and directional complements,it analyzes two types aspect meaning of "将" .Charter 4: The aspect auxiliary "着" . Situation types of verb and sentence are carried on to study grammaticalizaed classification of interior of "着" as an aspect of duration and its three types of aspect meaning.
