Analysing On The Rise And Domination Of Athenian Navy

Athenian navy is not only a center of Athenian history, but also a center of Greek history. Since 19th century, western scholars all have concentrated on some basal problems about navy's system, the management and the construction of battleship etc.on the studies of Athenian naval, but they talked less about the development, influence and the history position of Athenian naval.Chinese scholars have paid less attention to the Athenian navy, and they have mentioned it only when they carried on the researches such as some historical persons, the Persion war and the Peloponnesus war. Therefore, it has a special and important meaning on the rise of Athenian navy and the reason why it could overlorded among states.In addition to preface and conclusions, this text is to be divided into three parts.The first part analyzes why Athenian have developed navy.On the politics, developing the navy could resolve the employment, the existence of the fourth grade citizen; On the military, developing the navy is the demand that Athens does battle with Aegina and Persia;On the economy, developing the navy can protect the Athenian trade.The second part analyzes beneficial factor which Athens have in developing navy, it has five factors:(1)Geography factor;(2)Technique factor;(3)Political factor;(4)Economic factor;(5)Thought and cultural factor.These factors are the essential conditions in which Athenian navy quickly rises.The third part probes into the reason why Athenian navy dominate in states of Greek world, it has six factors totally:(l)Historic factor—the push of the Persian war;(2) the ocean consciousness that Athenian have before other person;(3) advanced tactics in naval battle;(4)long and hard training;(5)Outstanding generals;(6)Perfect logistic replenishment work.
