Metahistory, as Hayden White's main thought, reflects a kind of mix to formalism and structuralism methodology. The mode of historical interpretation, based on metahistory, for Hayden White, is not only the result of the analysis of historical works in 19th century, but also the carrier of all sorts of tactics that approach history. This thesis probes the concrete application of tactics these among the mode and shows us the process of the mode getting rid of restriction of time to attain general adaptability. With the cover that replaced by a large number of interpretation tactics, the interpretation mode becomes an integrated organism.American novelist Norman.Mailer holds the similar view on the relation between history and literature. He, with the practicing to " new journalism " and "Non-fiction Novel" and subversion of the traditional boundary between the duties of history and novel, historian and novelist, makes his works become a kind of deconstruction and rebuilding to history. His works " The armies of the night" with two subtitles " the novel as history", "history as novel" is a directly challenge to the boundary of history and novel. Historical incident and the historical personage, including Mailer's consciousness, demonstrated obvious subjectivity, This thesis uses the mode of historical interpretation to analyze this novel from the skills used in novel, and explores the meaning of "the textuality of history" for building a personal history. At last, suitability of the mode in history gets further identification.
