As the society advancing and education reform going, traditional teaching ideas and methods cannot satisfy modern education demands. Under this circumstance, reflective teaching provides an alternative approach to current English language teaching (ELT). This thesis aims at developing a reflective approach to teaching in order that a teacher can achieve professional development. From the theoretical and practical perspective this thesis discusses the flexibility of reflective teaching. In this thesis the discussion of the nature of reflective teaching can help teachers to develop their own ideas about reflective teaching in English language teaching. Such theories as constructivism, humanism, cognition and meta-cognition provide theoretical bases for the appropriateness of reflective teaching in English Language Teaching. The process of reflective teaching is mainly practiced through some systematic techniques and procedures including teaching journals, lesson reports, surveys and questionnaires, observation, audio and video recording of lessons, action research. Through these procedures English teachers collect data about classroom teaching and reflect their own teaching to find out and solve the teaching problems. The author thinks that this study will help change teachers' conception of teaching and improve English language teaching quality. |
