Hu Shi was the chief leader of cultural enlightenment within Wusi epoch. He advocated colloquialism movement and became the bannerman of Neo-culture movement. His literary view was influenced by western thoughts that represented the trend towards literary modernization. Meanwhile, his literary theory and his literary products contained traditional factors, tradition had formed the profound connotation within his literary conception. His thought on literary renovation was carried on tradition; His view on taking stock of conventional was a genre of representation through which go deep into the tradition. His view on colloquialism had indivisible consanguinity with tradition. Therefore, he was in practice to find traditional groundwork for the literary revolution in the new epoch. Mild individuality as well as being traditional-bred from childhood, that made Hu Shi's interest focused on researching native thoughts and culture. Comparing with other contemporary literators, Hu Shi was more rational, he analyzed tradition and revalue it, attempting to succeed to the soul within tradition. His ideology was the Sino-western cultural intercourse that based on tradition, and its motivation lay on finding the way that tradition-compatible and tradition-variable for the Chinese modern literature development towards the modernization.
