This thesis is to find what are the factors influencing English learning, and to what extent they work through a questionnaire, which was given to 180 students who had failed in the end-term English examination and 20 students who had done better than others in the year of 2002. The investigation could help us to take some measures to meliorate our teaching methods and improve the quality of English teaching so as to help more students in our school to pass the Practical English Test for Colleges successfully. The questionnaire consists of such questions as follows: what is the students' motivation of English learning; do the students with strong motivation and weak motivation get the same results? Does the motivation really help if they have an active attitude towards English learning? Do interest and affection influence English learning? What's the relationship between English learning and learning strategy, learning method, learning capacity, the style of recognition, learning habit, learning demand and the learning environment? The result indicates that what influence English learning are not only the intelligent factors but also the non-intelligent factors, and not only the factors from the students but also the factors from the environment. So we helped the students overcome their weakness, have more confidence and active attitude, .motivate their interest, encourage them to use proper learning strategy and method and create a nice environment for them.
