Ecofeminist Literary Criticism And Its Acceptance In China

Ecofeminists argue that there are important connections between the domination of women and the domination of nature, therefore, the goals of these two movements——the women's movement and the ecological movement are mutually reinforcing. They call for "women's cultural revolution", reaffirming "the principles of women", so as to establish new value and worldviews. The cultural trend of ecofeminism has swept across the field of literature. While ecofeminist philosophy and politics are relatively well developed, ecofeminist literary criticism is not. It's not until in 1990's that ecofeminist literary criticism has been set up. And even now, it is in the process of constructing. The critical focus of ecofeminist literary criticism is the androcentric worldviews. Ecofeminism critics have made efforts to reveal and criticize the double dominated and degraded women and nature images in literature text; they have probed into the ecological value, literature characteristics and aesthetic meaning of women's nature writings, and made a comparison between male and female nature writings, which makes ecofeminist literary criticism unique. Since 1990's, it is booming to introduce ecofeminism in to the field of philosophy, sociology, and gender studies in China, but it falls behind in the literature studies. This dissertation is directed at the weak point and tries to make a further study. First, this article gives a brief introduction of ecofeminism multi-theories, displaying its three schools. And then concentrating on the transition of worldviews it aroused, this section has proved how the ecofeminism has flowed into the region of literature. In chapter two, the author puts emphasis on interpreting relevant concepts, emulating text theories and making concrete text analysis and concluding theoretic features. Finally, taking literature as focal point, the author has introduced its acceptance in China.
