D. H. Lawrence is one of the most creative writers in the 20th century and he is a forerunner in the English modern literature. SONS AND LOVERS, which is commonly regarded as a semi-autobiographical work, establishes reputation for him. SONS AND LOVERS dares to break the tradition of creating works and reveals the inner mind of the main character with its special angle of view. It describes contradictory love between a son and a mother.Lihuishan is a key writer in the Chinese- Korean literature. Her fiction RED BUTTERFLY also shows inner mind of the character and its main character is moved by Oedipus Complex. She explores the world of unconscious, which is the deepest and most truthful part of human being. Comparison between Linhuishan's RED BUTTERFLY and D. H. Lawrence's SONS AND LOVERS can prove that Lihuishan doesn't totally imitate Lawrence and it shows she accepts beneficial factors of Lawrence to form her own distinguishing features. In addition to this, the study of comparison can supply Chinese -Korean literature with reference to accept achievements from the world literature.This thesis consists of three parts. In the first part, the author giy.es an introduction to generalize those papers on studying Lawrence and Lihuishan and also states purpose and significance of this thesis. The second part consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, the author states that Lihuishan is deeply influenced by Lawrence's primative vitalism and accepts Lawrence's artistic technique to create RED BUTTERFLY. In thesecond chapter, the author compares the main characters of the two fictions from the view of feminism to point out Lihuishan's innovation of building up new characters. In the third chapter, the author explores symbolic theme of the two fictions, which shows originality of Lihuishan. In the fourth chapter, the author states Lihuishan uses her national history and life as the background of her fiction, which helps to form her own special style, and also points out her limits that she neglects the effective techinique of setting background of Lawrence. In the last part, the author sums up the factors which are influeced and which are created. At the same time, the author also clarifys Lihuishan 's contribution to the Chinese-korean literature.
